Sri Lanka Telecom Rewards Broadband Twenty20 Winners with Laptop and Desktop Computers

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the number one broadband services provider in the country, held a special Awards Ceremony to announce and reward the winners of the SLT Broadband Twenty20 Promotion which was held from 20th September to 20th October 2010.

    COLOMBO, SRI LANKA, December 01, 2010 /Telecommunications PR News/ -- Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the number one broadband services provider in the country, held a special Awards Ceremony to announce and reward the winners of the SLT Broadband Twenty20 Promotion which was held from 20th September to 20th October 2010. In this promotion, customers were offered a broadband connection free - of - connection charge and the chance of winning exciting prizes. A total of thirty desktops and three laptops were given to the lucky winners who came from all parts of the country to participate in the Awards Ceremony, held at the Ceylon Intercontinental Hotel on 23rd November. As a result of this island-wide broadband promotion, SLT succeeded in passing the milestone of 200,000 ADSL broadband customers.
Commenting on SLT broadband developments, the CEO of SLT, Greg Young said, "Sri Lanka Telecom, the largest ISP in the country, made a big move recently to enhance Broadband quality. We have significantly increased available bandwidth in our broadband and international internet networks to accommodate the exploding growth from existing customers and to facilitate the strong demand from new customers; whilst also focusing on improving the quality and reliability of our fixed copper access network around the country".

Sri Lanka Telecom (www.slt.lk) is one of the country's most valuable blue chip companies with an annual turnover in excess of Rs 40 billion. Whilst Global Telecommunication Holdings N.V. of Netherlands owns 44.9% stake in Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) immediately after conclusion of their mandatory offer to the shareholder of SLT on 2nd June 2008 and 49.5% is owned by the Government of Sri Lanka. Balance shares are remaining with general public. The company was also awarded AAA (lka) rating on National Long Term Rating and BB- rating on Long-term Local Currency by Fitch Ratings followed by a B+ for both long-term Corporate Credit Rating and Long-term Debt Rating with a stable outlook, and one notch above the country rating by Standard & Poor's.

SLT Group has a customer base of over four million including multinational corporations, large and small corporate, retail and domestic customers. Today SLT provides facilities and services: voice, data, video and mobile to its customers, which are unmatched in scope. These services range from domestic and international voice, advance data transmission services which include internet services on leased lines, broadband [on SLT Broadband] and dial up, data circuits, frame relay solutions to IP services such as IP-VPN based on IP-MPLS technology, total corporate solutions of multiple services, satellite uplink services and mobile telephony through the fully owned subsidiary Mobitel.

With a view to making Sri Lanka a broadband island, SLT is in the process of introducing the necessary infrastructure in the form of NGN [Next Generation Networks] using optical fiber backbone and broadband services such as IMS, IPTV etc. SLT also provides high speed global connectivity to countries in the South Asian region through its investments in international submarine cables such as SMW3, SMW4, Bharat Lanka submarine cable system [between India and Sri Lanka] and Dhirragu-SLT submarine cable system [between Maldives Islands and Sri Lanka]. SLT Hong Kong Ltd and SLT VisionCom Private Limited, fully owned subsidiaries of Sri Lanka Telecom, respectively fully geared to provide, services such as IP transit, IPVPN, IPLC and International voice traffic transit services to global telecom operators and corporates in Hong Kong and future of tele-viewing with the launching of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) in Sri Lanka
